The science of connection
A rich body of research tells us that a unique kind of connection happens through shared activity and physical effort. We’re organizational psychologists who use that science to craft team-building experiences that are as rigorous and effective as they are fun.
The onboarding process
Discovery
A member of our team visits your office in person to assess your specific needs and gather the feedback that will shape the design of your retreat.
Preparation
We begin with a discovery call to discuss your goals, understand your organizational dynamics, and determine whether working together is the right fit.
Retreat
Three days in Tahoe, with every detail designed around your team. Time is divided between outdoor activities, structured workshops, dining, and adventuring.
Reflection
A member of our team returns to your office in person to review what was learned during the retreat and help apply those insights in daily practice.

Our team
Tory is in her final year of doctoral studies at the University of Nevada, Reno. Her completed dissertation explores employee voice through three perspectives: the moral motivation to speak up, voice as an ongoing process rather than a one-time event, and how competing goals—such as making a favorable impression while attempting to effect change—shape how people communicate at work. This academic work builds on her more than 25 years of experience across industries, from edtech (Aplia) and innovation management (Spigit) to entrepreneurship. She holds a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in organizational learning and a bachelor's degree in economics with a concentration in business administration.
Tory's move to Tahoe for graduate school introduced her to rock climbing, where she experienced firsthand the community and connection that come from shared physical activity. She came to see that the trust and clarity found on the rock are often the exact elements missing on the job. Bridging these two contexts, Tory's work focuses on expanding the diversity of perspectives within organizations and supporting the sustained learning and growth that helps teams do their best work.

Elizabeth has spent more than twenty years administering Alzheimer's and dementia care communities, where she led complex care planning, managed multi-departmental staff, and coordinated the daily health and wellbeing of residents. Much of that work was with families—leading caregiver support groups, running community education, and collaborating with medical professionals on care. Elizabeth holds a bachelor's degree in Spanish.
Through her professional experience, Elizabeth developed a way of understanding people that applies well beyond care settings. When someone cannot change their own circumstances, the people around them have to adjust their approach, and progress depends on attention to how people are treated, not only on what gets done. The same principle holds true for just about any work team. Groups function best when the people in them feel like they matter, and Elizabeth brings that specific focus to the work she does with organizations.

Alex has spent close to twenty years in hospitality and resort management, working in Africa and the United States. His work covers operations, guest experience, sales, and event management. Alex holds a bachelor's degree in tourism and travel services management and speaks English and German.
Alex’s career has been focused on managing the physical spaces where people gather. His goal is always to handle the operational details so thoroughly that guests don't have to think about them at all. That same reliability is what makes a team retreat work. When the surroundings and schedules are taken care of, people can stop tracking the logistics and give their full attention to the work and to each other.

FAQ’s
-
We design these experiences for groups of 20 to 50 people. This range is intentional; it is large enough to represent complex organizational structures and diverse perspectives, yet small enough to maintain the safety, intimacy, and cohesion required meaningful connection.
-
We are currently booking retreats for fall 2026. Because our process is consultative and includes an in-person diagnostic assessment at your office roughly one month prior to the event, we need at least a couple month of lead time. This ensures we have adequate time to analyze your team's feedback, build a custom curriculum, and secure accommodations with our local partners.
-
We partner with a small selection of vetted properties in the Lake Tahoe region. Our primary location is a boutique hotel near downtown Truckee that features an on-site restaurant and private meeting spaces. This setup ensures your team has a comfortable, quiet basecamp with the necessary infrastructure for meaningful connection.
-
Activities are selected based on your team's physical comfort levels and the specific objectives identified during our pre-retreat assessment. We partner with certified local mountain guides to facilitate experiences such as rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, paddleboarding, or winter activities such as skiing and snowshoeing. Every activity is selected for its capacity to foster genuine community through shared physical activity.
-
Our pricing covers the complete scope of our advisory work and retreat logistics. This includes the initial in-person office assessment, all lodging and group meals in Tahoe, outdoor activities with certified local guides, all workshop materials, and the post-retreat reflection session at your office. Travel to and from Tahoe is handled separately; many teams prefer to drive, though we are happy to assist in arranging group bus transportation if needed.
-
Yes. We handle the operations, partner management, on-site logistics, and meal coordination from start to finish. Once the dates are set and your goals are established, we manage the details so your team can focus entirely on the experience.
-
We ground our designs in established management and behavioral research, with a specific focus on organizational learning (e.g., Argyris & Schön), systems thinking (Senge), and sensemaking (Weick). The exact foundation we build upon depends on your team's current dynamics. For instance, if your organization is navigating communication challenges, we would probably draw heavily from the employee voice and organizational communication literatures to design targeted learning opportunities.
-
At this time, our primary service is Tahoe retreats. On a case by case basis, we offer ongoing coaching services to organizations. We currently do not offer retreats outside of Tahoe.
